Joe Ranft Dies in Car Crash Posted August 17, 2005 Joe Ranft was killed Tuesday the 16th in an auto accident. Ranft worked on several of the most beloved modern classics to come out of Disney and Pixar. His work includes The Brave Little Toaster, Oliver & Company, The Rescuers Down Under, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Fantasia 2000, even Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach. He was also the head of story for the next Pixar movie Cars. Pixar has made a few statements "Joe was an important and beloved member of the Pixar family, and his loss is of great sorrow to all of us and to the animation industry as a whole" and "Joe was a big part of Pixar's soul".
